Applets, software modules near a web application server in the backend, interconnect the AIOMS to the individual backend systems such as CRM, ERP or other. Applets contain only the individual application logic of directly accessing backend data from mobile devices, while the mobility server covers general security, integration and policy issues.

Using applets, mobile applications can be realized within hours, as long as the backend software has open API or SOA interfaces and the data and processes to be mobilized have been clearly defined.

Applets can be written in Java, PHP, .NET C C++ or C#, Python, Ruby or any other modern webbased programming language. Thus, because programming happens on the server rather than on the device, knowledge in developing Android, iOS or other mobile device operating systems is not necessary.
